Stupak ‘Remains Optimistic’ He Can Work Out Abortion-Funding Language to Save Health Care Bill
(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Bart Stupak, a pro-life Democrat from Michigan, “remains optimistic” that he can work out language with House Democratic leaders on federal funding of abortion, the main sticking point in getting a health care bill to President Obama’s desk. Stupak said on Tuesday he had “meaningful discussions” with two leading House Democrats, and more are planned for later in the week.
55 Percent Think Obama Should ‘Start Over’ on Health Care Reform, Poll Finds
(CNSNews.com) – A Rasmussen Reports survey found that 55 percent of Americans think Congress should throw the current health care plan out and start fresh, suggesting that President Obama’s demand that Congress pass his reform proposal has failed to sway the public. The poll of 1,000 likely voters, which was released on March 5, found that only 37 percent of Americans think Congress should continue to build on the bill Democrats have been debating among themselves for nearly a year.

Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) told CNSNews.com Tuesday after his staff on the Environment and Public Works Committee received an email informing them that the Senate Sergeant at Arms believed the Drudge Report and whitepages.com were responsible for infecting Senate computers with viruses. The Sergeant at Arms advised Senate personnel not to visit those Web sites.

(CNSNews.com) – An Iranian whose fiancée was killed during post-election protests last year made an impassioned appeal Tuesday for Tehran to be denied a seat on the U.N. Human Rights Council in elections this spring. Caspian Makan, a photojournalist who fled Iran late last year after being detained for more than 60 days, said Iranian membership in the U.N.’s top human rights body would be a “slap in the face” of other members.

Jennings, the assistant deputy education secretary for the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools, made a rare public appearance Monday, speaking to a gathering of school teachers at the National Press Club.

An Obama Nominee and Disappearing Persons
By Terence P. Jeffrey
Dawn Johnsen, another of President Barack Obama’s liberal nominees, discovered a way to make a person disappear by making two persons into one. As a lawyer, Johnsen favored denying unborn children legal recognition at any stage of development. She essentially views an unborn child as the property of the mother. If the full Senate confirms her as director of the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel, Johnsen would interpret the meaning of the law for administration officials.
The Shameless Abortion Carnival
By L. Brent Bozell III
If anyone was looking for a self-righteous extreme feminist, they found one in Angie Jackson, a woman who announced she would “tweet” her chemical-cocktail abortion live, as it happened. The liberal media found this made-for-TV slaughter fascinating — not a controversy worthy of two-sided discussion.
Desperate Democrats Cling to Human Kiddie Shield
By Michelle Malkin
Have you noticed something about the audiences that President Obama has cherry-picked to cheer his government health care takeover roadshow? They’re getting younger and younger. Desperate times call for demagogic measures. True to form, the Obama White House is wielding the human kiddie shield as its last-stand defense for Demcare.
Vanessa Williams: Looking a White Gift House in the Mouth
By Ben Shapiro
On Sunday night, Sandra Bullock won Best Actress at the 82nd Academy Awards for her portrayal of gun-toting Republican Leigh Anne Tuohy in “The Blind Side.” Leave it to the gals on “The View” to tear apart this heartwarming story. Vanessa Williams, sitting in for Whoopi Goldberg, trashed the film, even though she’d never seen it. Williams said: “It brings up a theme for black folks of ,‘OK, here’s another white family that has saved the day.’ Another black story that has to have a white person come in and lift them up.’”

U.S. Census Has ‘Policy of Self-Identification’ for Same-Sex Couples
(CNSNews.com) – What kind of questions are going to be on the U.S. Census form? Just ten “basic” questions, says the U.S. Census Bureau. And on a question about relationships, same-sex couples may go with personal preference rather than truth.
Senate Armed Services Chairman Did Not Know That Bill He is Sponsoring Would Legalize Bisexual Behavior in the Military
(CNSNews.com) – Senate Armed Services Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) did not know that a bill he is co-sponsoring with Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in the military would also legalize both homosexual and bisexual activity among military personnel. Levin said he would “have to give a lot more thought to it” before deciding whether in fact he supported legalizing homosexual and bisexual behavior in the military.
Year-Long Celebration Planned to Mark President Ronald Reagan’s 100th Birthday
(CNSNews.com) - Perhaps the most telling thing about the year-long celebration planned to mark President Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday is that it will not be funded by the American taxpayer. The 40th president would have turned 100 on Feb. 6, 2011.

(CNSNews.com) - Lebanon’s political parties are holding a “national dialogue” on Tuesday to discuss a defense strategy for the country, but Hezbollah has made it clear that the subject of its weapons arsenal will not be on the table. Who Should Pay the Piper?
By Patrick J. Buchanan
Greece this past weekend saw the worst rioting since the debt crisis began. It happened after Athens announced new tax hikes and budget cuts to reduce a deficit of 13 percent of gross domestic product. In our own country, students, teachers and administrators at UC-Berkeley held a protest to demand more money from taxpayers. Republicans, now surfing an anti-government wave, soon will have to reveal where exactly they propose to cut the bloated budget. A good place to start would be state pensions and federal salaries.
Sapping Our Self-Reliance
By Ed Feulner
Spending is out of control. The federal budget for 2010 calls for $3.5 trillion in spending, up from $2.0 trillion in 2002. There’s no way every dollar of that is absolutely necessary and intelligently spent. But such big spending has encouraged Americans to depend more and more on government. It’s time to restore fiscal sanity. Let’s get America off the dole.

Timetable for U.S. Troop Withdrawal on Track, Obama Says, After Iraqis Vote
(CNSNews.com) – “We will continue with the responsible removal of the United States forces from Iraq,” President Obama said at the White House on Sunday, confirming that “by the end of the next year, all U.S. troops will be out of Iraq.” At least 38 people were killed during a spate of bombing and other attacks near polling stations on Sunday, but millions of Iraqis defied terrorists’ threats and turned out to cast their ballots. Obama noted that Iraqi forces had taken the lead in providing security.
Reported Arrest of American Militant in Pakistan Could Lead to First Treason Trial in Decades
(CNSNews.com) – Conflicting reports about the possible arrest of American al-Qaeda spokesman Adam Yahya Gadahn in Pakistan are focusing attention once again on the first person to be charged with treason against the United States in more than half a century. Pakistani officials told media organizations Sunday that Gadahn had been arrested in Karachi, Pakistan’s biggest city. In the years after 9/11, Gadahn appeared, sometimes masked, in a number of videos threatening violence against Americans and other Westerners.
Acting TSA Head: Agency to Continue Using only Small Portion of Terror Watch List to Screen Passengers

Poll: By 2-to-1 Margin, Americans Say U.S. Debt Owed to China Now Greater Threat than Terrorism
(CNSNews.com) – American adults believe the amount of money the U.S. owes China to cover the U.S. national debt is now a greater threat than radical Islam. According to a Zogby International poll, 58 percent said the debt was a greater concern compared with just 27 percent who chose terrorism perpetrated by “radical Islamists.”
New Poll: Most Americans Say Banning Handguns is Unconstitutional

White House Calls Suggestion of Swapping Health Care Vote for Judgeship ‘Silly’
Washington (CNSNews.com) – The notion that President Barack Obama tried to win the vote of a Democratic congressman on health care by nominating his brother to a federal judgeship is “a pretty silly argument,” said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
Emanuel: ‘In My Family, There Are At Least Two R-Words That Are Sort of Suspicious’
(CNSNews.com) – Ezekiel Emanuel, who advises the Office of Management and Budget on health care, and whose brother is White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, joked that words beginning with “R” have become a touchy subject in the prominent Chicago family. In February, Rahm Emanuel apologized to the head of the Special Olympics for having referred to a group of liberal activists as “ retarded.” Ezekiel also had his own run-in with a different R-word over the summer when his positions on bioethics were brought into the health care debate. In this case, the word was “rationing.”

Arm Twisting
By Rich Galen
Last week was not a good one in the Obama Administration’s drive to have one more crack at a health care bill in Congress. To successfully twist arms on the Hill, any White House needs political leverage, which is measured by public approval. With the President’s approval ratings under water, using the real or implied threat of Presidential unhappiness is not likely to gain many votes among recalcitrant members of the Democratic House Caucus on the health care bill.
Blowing Wind Up Your Skirt
By Alan Caruba
One of the keystones of the Obama administration’s energy policies has been a very expensive emphasis on “clean energy,” sometimes called “renewable energy,” allocating billions to the wind and solar energy producers. Like much of the “stimulus” bill, that money is a waste.
Established news organizations, with the exception of Fox, licked the boots of BHO
Funeral Dirge for the Main Stream Media?
By Dave Macy Sunday, March 7, 2010
The greatest reality check for the Old Media (MSM) is yet to come. Complicit in their coronation of Barack Obama during the last presidential campaign—indeed during the first several months of his presidency—the established news organizations, with the exception of Fox, licked the boots of BHO.
Uninterested in digging into Obama’s lack of experience, lack of family history, and lack of anything substantive, the MSM donned their cheerleader outfits and hoisted pom poms to root for The One who would show America had finally progressed enough to accept a “black” president.
The old media’s bias was strengthened by the fear that to question the legitimacy of Barack Obama was not only racist, but downright un-American. In their attempt to be “fair” in covering the rise of the Magic Negro they simply tossed out any last remnants of journalistic principles. It took less than a year for many of the old guard media to return to reality.
Parroting the ‘blame Bush’ excuses lasted only so long. The reality of federal government spending America into abysmal debt, the chilling aloofness and non-stop campaigning of Obama far beyond the election, and the dogmatic push for governmental control of many sectors of the economy (let’s just call it what it is-socialism) started to bring back a smattering of journalistic ethic. But it has been too little too late.
The reality of incompetency displayed by our current president can no longer be glazed over by the fairy tale press
The reality of incompetency displayed by our current president can no longer be glazed over by the fairy tale press. The heartbeats of American news pump loud and clear in places the MSM cannot influence. Just look at the number of Americans who have stopped relying on NBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN for their information. While FOX can boast of big ratings, the real influence has moved beyond the TV and onto the internet. Online news sources like CFP and hundreds of others have brought fresh perspectives to what America views as information. Unfiltered by ‘progressive’ journalism, the new media is unafraid to ask questions deemed ‘unsavory’ or ‘non-journalistic’ by the established media.
A great example of this change in how Americans are influenced comes from my own experience. I was blessed to be a talk radio host for many years in markets like Atlanta, Nashville, and Toledo. But I could see major changes coming in my chosen medium. As my kids grew up with the Internet I saw them turning away from radio to satisfy their musical hunger. Downloading songs onto MP3’s, not waiting for a radio station to play a favorite, indeed CD players in cars even before the Internet influence signaled a major change for music radio.
What happened to music radio is analogous to what has occurred in the MSM. People no longer sit down to the evening newscast in great numbers and watch the likes of Huntley and Brinkley. They don’t have icons like Walter Cronkite wielding vast influence anymore. The newspaper on the doorstep is fading from the American landscape.
Americans now gather their news from many other places—and much of it from online sources. This has allowed information consumers to see the slanted, sanctimonious musing of outlets such as the New York Times and the Washington Post. The Associated Press is now perceived as laughable. Because the old tired media long ago stopped going for the jugular with a sense of journalistic pride, other truth seekers have begun digging deeper to separate fact from fiction, to connect the dots, and to present a side of the news you won’t get from the Old Guard.
I have always thought that much truth, as it pertains to politics and our government, is contained in common sense. When politicians say something that flies in the face of common sense—they are lying to promote a policy which will lead to higher taxes, more oppressive government, more voters sympathetic to their own needs (re-election), in short SOCIALISM.
Where Common Sense prevails we experience the exact opposite. Thank God for the freedom of speech and freedom of the press in America. Thank God for the First Amendment! Let’s hope we don’t have to muster the Second Amendment just to protect our right to the First.

Stupak Rejects Hoyer’s New Claim That Senate Health Bill Bars Funding of Abortion
(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), sponsor of the successful amendment to the House health care bill that prohibits federal funds from going to any health care plan that covers abortions, rejected the assertion made Tuesday by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) that the Senate health care bill prohibits federal funding of abortion. This is important because President Obama’s current plan to enact health-care reform requires the House to pass the Senate bill, a bill that Stupak has said he will not support.
Justice Department Won’t Name the Attorneys Who Worked on Terror Cases Despite Request From GOP Senators
(CNSNews.com) – After a conservative group posted a video on Tuesday calling for the Justice Department to release the names of department lawyers who previously worked on cases involving terror suspects, a DOJ spokesman responded with a statement that still does not name the attorneys. Republican lawmakers have raised conflict-of-interest concerns about lawyers who represented or advocated on behalf of Guantanamo Bay detainees before joining the Justice Department.
Sebelius Accuses GOP of Using ‘Politics of Obstruction’ on Health Care
(CNSNews.com) – Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told physicians and others at the American Medical Association conference in Washington that President Barack Obama will not start from scratch on health care legislation and will “move forward” to get a bill passed. She said there was “overlap” of what Republicans and Democrats want in health care legislation, including the elimination of waste and fraud in the government-run Medicare and Medicaid programs, but Sebelius said Obama and Democrats are still dedicated to universal health care.

Obama Administration’s Stance on Falkland Islands Dispute Seen As Betrayal by Some in U.K.

Sen. Jim Bunning’s Historic and Heroic Stand
By Terence P. Jeffrey
Republican Sen. Jim Bunning of Kentucky, a 78-year-old grandfather of 40 who is not running for re-election, has single-handedly fought a battle on Capitol Hill over the past week that ought to inspire all taxpayers to rally around his banner of common sense. Bunning not only said “NO” to a Congress that has been driving the nation deeper and deeper into debt, but he also decided to use what power he has under Senate rules to make sure his “NO” was heard.
You Have No Right to My Property
By Ben Shapiro
Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) is the most unpopular man in the Senate, according to his colleagues. What is Bunning doing that deserves such reproof? He has the audacity to stall a 30-day extension of unemployment and COBRA health care benefits on the grounds that the extension would add $10 billion to the federal deficit, which is already expected to hit $1.6 trillion this year. Here’s the truth: Bunning is a hero and his senatorial critics are villains. That goes for Republicans as well as Democrats.
Andy Stern and Barack Obama: Fiscal Responsibility Fraudsters

Everything you need to know about President Obama’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and cost containment can be summed up in two words: Andy Stern. If Obama thinks Stern holds the cure for our government spending woes, you can be certain his latest health care prescription will be fiscal hemlock.

Yesterday was primary election day in Texas. The biggest race of the night was between incumbent Republican Governor Rick Perry and Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. Perry won. By a lot. Nor did she make a good enough case as to why she should be the one to replace that particular rascal if, indeed, he should be thrown out.

Arlen Specter (D-Pa.), who switched parties last year, briefly giving the Democrats a 60-vote majority in the Senate. “So, at this point, the White House is not ready to deny what Sestak said?” CNSNews.com asked Gibbs. “No. I think I said I would check on it, on the situation,” said Gibbs.

Hoax of the Century
By Patrick J. Buchanan
Today’s global warming hysteria is the hoax of the 21st century. H.L. Mencken had it right: “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed—and hence clamorous to be led to safety—by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”
In Limbo Over Gitmo
By Ed Feulner
As a presidential candidate, Barack Obama spoke repeatedly about the importance of closing our military’s prisoner detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. One of his first acts after becoming president was to announce it would be shuttered within a year. The war on terrorism will be a long fight. To win, we’ll need to know what to do with the enemies we capture alive.

Muslims Furious Over Israeli Decision to Highlight Ancient Link
(CNSNews.com) – A decision by the Israeli government to include a location with an almost 4,000 year-old link to the origins of Judaism in a list of 150 national heritage sites has sparked an uproar among Muslims – and drawn the disapproval of the Obama administration. Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu insisted Thursday that the decision to include the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron on the list would not in any way change the status quo at the site, which has long been shared by Jews and Muslims.

Obama’s Problems—and Ours
By Patrick J. Buchanan
That Republicans failed under George W. Bush few Republicans will deny. That Obama and his White House are failing today few Democrats will privately deny. The question raised by the successive failures is whether either party has a cure for the maladies that afflict America. Or are those maladies beyond the power of politics to heal?

The Oba-Kabuki health care show at Blair House kicked off with a big lie on Thursday morning—and it all went downhill from there. “No one’s talking about reconciliation!” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid sputtered indignantly. Black Caucus throws roadblock in front of ‘tax-cut’ $15 billion job-creation bill
Congressional Black Caucus members are dismissing a $15 billion jobs bill as inadequate, forcing House leaders to rethink their plan to vote on the measure Friday.
Leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) told Democratic leaders Thursday that they didn’t support a measure they saw more as a “tax bill” than a bill that will create jobs.
“I’m offended that it’s been called a jobs bill,” CBC Vice Chairman Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) told reporters. “I will not stand up in the district that I represent… and say we just did a jobs bill. I think people are smarter than that. This is a tax cut bill and a little piece of a transportation bill.”
CBC members join House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman James Oberstar (D-Minn.) and other infrastructure advocates in withholding their support for the measure, which passed with 70 votes in the Senate on Wednesday and which House leaders wanted to pass before the weekend.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) acknowledged that Oberstar and the CBC have “questions” over the bill.
“So I’m going to be talking to a number of people on it and will make a determination on it tomorrow,” Hoyer told reporters.
Most of the bill — $13 billion — goes toward a tax credit for small businesses who hire new workers or increase employee wages. The remaining funds in the measure go toward the extension of the highway trust fund for transportation projects, a tax break allowing companies to write off equipment losses and low-cost bonds for state and local government infrastructure projects.
Oberstar has said that dozens of House Democrats oppose the way the bill steers a disproportionate amount of money for transportation projects toward four states instead of allowing the funding to be doled out based on projects’ merits.

CBC leaders met with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in her office off the House floor Thursday. The group is pushing for a larger bill that will have more immediate impact.
CBC members want a comprehensive measure that includes government spending on infrastructure projects and programs that will directly help areas with high unemployment and poverty rates, said CBC Chairwoman Barbara Lee (D-Calif.).
“In no way does $15 billion, a tax-cut bill, create jobs for the chronically unemployed,” CBC Chairwoman Barbara Lee told reporters.
Lee said she didn’t expect the bill to come to the floor Friday.
“I don’t think you’ll see a lot of CBC votes” for the bill, Lee said.
The unemployment rate for blacks is 16.7 percent, far higher than the 9.7 percent national rate.
The NAACP and other black leaders met with President Barack Obama earlier this month to urge government to do more to create jobs in urban areas. They said after the meeting they would also press lawmakers to pass a more comprehensive measure that includes funding for New Deal-style public and nonprofit programs that directly hire workers.

Global Warming Update
By Walter E. Williams
Private industry and governments around the world have spent trillions of dollars in the name of saving our planet from manmade global warming, which may turn out to be the greatest hoax in mankind’s history. At the minimum, we should stop the Environmental Protection Agency from going on with their plans to regulate carbon emissions. And more companies should resign from the United States Climate Action Partnership (USCAP), a lobbying group of businesses and radical environmentalists.
